Update of Brexit and the CE marking

In the meantime it has become known that the UKCA license plate will be mandatory in Great Britain from 01.01.2021. The UKCA mark is linked to the UK declaration of conformity, so UK laws and no longer EU directives apply. It is an analogous 1: 1 adoption of the EU regulations. The technical requirements and the modules of the conformity assessment procedures will initially be adopted unchanged.

Until December 31, 2021, manufacturers are still allowed to bring products that only bear the CE mark into the UK market. Analogous to the EU Declaration of Conformity, there will be a UKCA Declaration of Conformity for the British market in future, which instead of EU directives / regulations will refer to corresponding British laws and refer to British standards (BS) as normative evidence. The BS suffix indicates that these are standards that have been adopted by the UK Standards Institute, the UK’s national standards body.

The CE marking, the EU declaration of conformity and the EU type examination will be treated as alternatives to the corresponding UK elements until the end of 2021 at the latest. There is therefore a one-year transition phase from 01/01/2021 to 12/31/2021. After that, the UKCA label must be used and the associated requirements implemented.

However, if applicable changes to EU or UK law take effect from 01/01/2021, the UKCA label will be mandatory for affected products immediately before 12/31/2021. This also applies vice versa for changes to UK law in the meantime. The aforementioned transition period also applies accordingly to products that require confirmation from a notified body.
