ONHe leaves his house every day. Virginia Governor Ralph Northam passes a statue of a young black girl reminiscent of school segregation. It is a clear reminder of the racist past of his state.

This past has caught up with Mr. Northam, a Democrat, this week when his yearbook of medical college appeared. His personal page showed a photo of people in Blackface and Ku Klux Klan robes. His Attorney General Mark Herring, also a Democrat, then admitted that he also created Blackface.

The scandal echoed through the Democratic Party and through America, but both men refused to resign and asked to what extent the race relations in Virginia really did develop.
