The experience of looking at a television screen is about to change thanks to Xiaomi, since it has launched the world’s first transparent television on the market.
One of a kind, the technology implemented by Xiaomi to assemble this model has surprised more than one, and that is that the screen of the Mi TV LUX model is completely transparent.
In order to create a model of this type, and that also preserves the most characteristic functions of a smart television, Xiaomi has resorted to a new way of assembling its equipment.

Since last August, Xiaomi announced that it was about to launch the Mi TV LUX model.
This is the first model of transparent screen television to be produced and marketed worldwide.
The process to design, assemble and distribute the Xiaomi Mi TV LUX is quite an achievement, and this was described by the company in a statement.
In it, they explained the entire process behind this new television model, which consisted of several steps in which the brand’s engineers put into practice innovative strategies that have surprised more than one.
The first step to successfully assemble the transparent screen of the Xiaomi Mi TV LUX model consisted of, perhaps, the most ‘obvious’ point: making all the components that usually go inside the screen work correctly in another part of the equipment.
Each of the components that make the television work were removed from the place where they generally operate, and were placed in the base of the television.
This meant a new challenge: to ensure that the change of place of the components does not affect the integral functioning of the television in terms of audio, image and internal functioning.
By relocating the parts to the bottom of the television, the engineers in charge of Xiaomi’s most innovative project so far had to come up with a strategy so that this design would not affect the system of device cooling.
The main objective was to ensure that, despite the reduced space in which the parts are located, they did not suffer from overheating caused by normal use of the equipment.
Thus, they designed the chipset with a heat sink so that the entire base of the television would be equipped with vents that would allow to regulate the cooling process.
Xiaomi and the Mi TV LUX model: reinventing technology
One of the first decisions that Xiaomi had to make was to choose what type of screen it would choose for this model.
While both LCD and OLED displays can be made transparent, Xiaomi’s executives and engineers chose the OLED display.
This was because it does not require feedback, whereas the former would have to include an external light.
As some experts indicate, the OLED screen is not transparent by default, and this is achieved through a series of steps.
The RGBW matrix, as the dezeen.com portal explains, has a unique design in which only half of the panel is covered with pixels, while the other half is transparent.
As for pixels, it is explained that these do not represent any problem or mismatch; in fact, they can be seen at a normal distance that is blurred on the transparent screen.
In order to protect the panel, the display is assembled with a 55-inch piece of glass that is glued together using a UV-curable adhesive. To this, a metal frame that surrounds the entire perimeter of the glass is added as a measure of protection and firmness.
With barely ten years in the market, the presentation of the Xiaomi Mi TV LUX It has come as a welcome surprise to technology experts, although some have also been skeptical about the long-term performance of this model.
For Xiaomi, however, it is not just an innovation; in statements to the press, they have been emphatic in saying that “it is not only a TV, it is a piece of art.”
This ‘piece of art’ features a design that combines a 5.7mm transparent rectangular screen and a round base, where all the components of the television have been placed.
As part of the design, Xiaomi also looked for the base of the television to harmonize with the components of the place where it was installed; thus, the intention was to create a base similar to compact disc players.
The Mi TV LUX transparent edition model is made with a personalized user interface, which has been called MIUI for tv.
In this, the home page, settings and applications are designed to offer a better visual reference on the transparent screen.
Experts have recommended that, if this television model is purchased, users place it in strategic places, since placing it in the middle of a room or room could put the integrity of the users at risk, since it would be practically impossible to notice the screen naked eye.
