Police in Paris fired tear gas on demonstrators when a fourth weekend of anti-government protests became violent.

The clashes took place after up to 8,000 demonstrators gathered in the city center. More than 500 people were taken into custody.

The police told the BBC that 30 people were injured in the capital, including three policemen.

The "yellow vest" opposed the increase in fuel tax, but the ministers say it was kidnapped by "ultra-violent" demonstrators.

In Paris, about 8,000 police and 12 armored vehicles were used, almost 90,000 across the country.
