YouTube temporarily demonetized three of Shawn Dawson’s famous video accounts after getting a negative reaction to having previously published content that showed it in blackface, making racial insults and sexualizing Willow Smith.
The company confirmed that they were suspending Dawson’s ability to profit from his YouTube videos in a statement to TubeFilter on Tuesday – despite the fact that Dawson has already apologized for his offensive behavior.
YouTube did not say how long Dawson’s accounts will be demonetized, but said it would be “indefinite, but not permanent”.
Dawson’s videos are streamed more than 45 million times a month, allowing him to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars through advertising. The 31-year-old has an estimated net worth of $ 12 million.
His three YouTube accounts – ‘Shane’, ‘ShaneDawsonTV’ and ‘ShaneGlossin’ ‘- boast over 32 million monthly subscribers combined. It has been present on YouTube since 2008.
On Friday, Dawson released a 20-minute apology video, titled “Taking Responsibility,” in which he claimed he “deserved to lose everything” because of his offensive antics.

Dawson was brought into focus for using blackface and mocking African Americans in his old comic sketches. He apologized for his behavior in a video released last Friday, but YouTube has still decided to demonetize his accounts
Willow Smith, who is now 19 years old, is pictured last year. Dawson was blown up after the video re-emerged of him pretending to masturbate in front of a poster of the star when he was only 11 years old
‘This video comes from a place where I just wanted to own up to my house, I wanted to own up to everything I did on the Internet that hurt people, that added to the problem, that wasn’t handled well, “he said. .
“I don’t know who that person is anymore.”
Dawson continued: ‘I have done many things in my past that I hate, that I wish I could make it go away, that I tried to make it go away by deleting the videos, or by deselecting my Instagram, literally doing anything I can pretend that these things are not happened, “he said.

Despite Dawson’s apology video, the Smith family blew him up.
Willow’s mother, Jada Pinkett-Smith, tweeted Monday: “To Shane Dawson … I’m done with an apology.”
Jada Pinkett Smith exited Dawson after an old video resurfaced making sexual gestures towards a poster of her 11-year-old daughter Willow Smith (pictured 2017)
His older brother, Jaden Smith, also went to the social media site and wrote: ‘SHANE DAWSON, I AM DISGUSTED BY YOU.
‘SEXUALIZES AN 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL WHO HAPPENS TO BE MY SISTER !!!!!! IT IS THE QUARTER THING FROM THE FUN AND NOT RIGHT IN THE LIGHTER BIT. “
In another tweet, he added: ‘This man was also doing his usual black face. As young people we must support the creators who support us and our morals. This is not good. ‘
In Friday’s apology video, Dawson also said he regretted “all the racism that [he] put on the Internet, “which includes satirical representations of African Americans, Asians and Mexicans.
“Blackface was something I did a lot,” he said.
Dawson is seen in black in the old clips he had posted on his YouTube page
‘There is no excuse for this. I didn’t do the job. I haven’t looked at the story and why it’s so wrong, and why people were so angry.
“I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be black, and to see this fucking white guy do blackface, and the whole internet at that moment is like,” LOL! “It’s crazy and I’m so sorry.
“I should lose everything for that,” he noted.
When speaking of his use of the word N, Dawson states that his sketches promote the “normalization” of the epithet.
“I, as a white person, wearing a wig, playing a character, doing stereotypes and then saying that the word N is something I probably should have lost my career at the time,” he said.
“There is no excuse that can take him away.”
The latest: Jenna Marbles, 33, says she will no longer post on her YouTube channel during a review of previous videos that contained racist content including a blackface skit
Earlier this week, another YouTube star, Jenna Marbles, said she left her channel and apologized to her 20 million followers for past videos where black rapper Nicki was seen mocking Minaj and spoofing Asians.
In an 11-minute clip titled “A Message”, the 33-year-old native of Rochester, New York acknowledged her past transgressions, which included a 2011 blackface skit, shameful women and a racist rap.
“For now I just can’t exist on this channel,” he said. ‘I want to be held responsible and it is painful to do it. I am ashamed of the things I have done and said in my past – but it is important.
‘I think for now I will go through this channel. I don’t know if it’s forever. I don’t know how long it will take … for now I will stop. “
Marbles said it was time to step back from the channel, which has over 20 million subscribers, amidst a series of routine questions.
She specifically turned to the blackface skit, a video showing a rap playing a joke on Asians and another in which she ran into women sleeping around.
The rap song included the phrase: “Hey Ching Chong Wing Wong, shake your King Kong ding dong.”
He described the video as “horrible” and “unforgivable”.
In the video, Blackface wears a pink wig and a tight blue dress and jokes that Minaj has different personalities. At some point in the video she is seen with dark paint or a mask on her face while talking about “extravagant” sex.
“I understand,” he said. ‘I’ve definitely done things in the past that weren’t great. I’m not entirely without problems. I have done my best to grow. ‘
