Major high street retailers have joined forces with government officials to launch the Opening Shift initiative, tackling youth joblessness.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham is introducing a universal credit top-up for families whose 16- or 17-year-old children leave education for an apprenticeship. The policy aims to offset child benefit losses and tackle rising youth unemployment.
