Honda India domestic car sales jump 48 percent in July
Honda Cars India experienced a 48.5% surge in domestic sales in July 2026, reaching 6,014 units amidst a broader wave of automotive industry growth.
Honda Cars India has reported a significant jump in domestic sales, joining a broader wave of record growth across the nation's automotive sector. The company's performance arrives alongside a massive surge across the wider industry, where wholesale dispatches climbed markedly, according to data published by Fortuneindia. This upswing in domestic demand for passenger vehicles is benefiting from favourable macroeconomic conditions, including tax relief and financial measures supporting buyers.
Honda reported total sales of 8,284 units in July 2026, which included 6,014 domestic sales and 2,270 exports. While total sales increased by 10.1% compared to the previous year, the domestic segment stood out with a strong 48.5% growth in volumes. Domestic sales rose from 4,050 units in July 2025, adding 1,964 units. Month-on-month figures also demonstrated healthy progress, increasing from June 2026 volumes to translate into a 14.7% rise.

Exports presented a different picture for Honda, declining from 3,474 units in the previous year's figures in the same month. However, looking at the cumulative period for the financial year from April to July, Honda sold 29,863 vehicles, registering a 27.1% growth over the corresponding period last year. Domestic sales grew during this four-month stretch, alongside an increase in exports.
"The company’s over 48% domestic sales growth reflects the positive momentum being built across its portfolio."

Behl added that customer interest in the brand has been strengthened by the encouraging response to the recently introduced New City and the launch of the Honda ZR-V, while the Elevate and Amaze continue to deliver robust sales backed by their strong value proposition. With the festive season approaching, Honda expects its strengthened portfolio and customer-focused initiatives to help sustain this momentum in the coming months.
Beyond its current lineup, Honda is working on one of its biggest product expansion plans for India. The company has already begun testing its upcoming 0 Alpha eSUV, recently spotted in Manali ahead of its expected 2027 launch. This will be Honda’s first dedicated electric SUV for the Indian market. Beyond EVs, Honda has confirmed development of two new India-focused SUVs, including a sub-4 metre SUV to rival Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue, along with a new midsize SUV positioned against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. Both SUVs are expected to arrive from 2028 onwards. Honda’s long-term strategy includes plans to launch 10 new cars in India by 2030 across ICE, hybrid, and electric powertrains.
Honda's domestic acceleration mirrors a wider national upswing. Across the wider industry, passenger vehicle wholesales rose significantly, aided by GST 2.0, lower borrowing costs, income tax relief, and sustained demand for Sport Utility Vehicles and electric vehicles. Market leader Maruti Suzuki posted record domestic passenger vehicle sales, while Hyundai Motor India, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, and Mahindra & Mahindra also reported robust double-digit growth. Other manufacturers, such as Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Kia India, JSW MG Motor India, and Nissan Motor India, also registered positive momentum during the month.
