Longtime Detroit Lions kicker Jason Hanson surprised local children at Ford Field by handing out school supplies during a community outreach event, pairing physical drills with educational preparation according to primary reporting from Ally. The community gathering brought together local youth for athletic drills and a leadership workshop presented by Detroit Lions Director of Football Education Chris Fritzsching. Children participated in catching, throwing, and kicking sessions before receiving backpacks, notebooks, and financial literacy books. Each child in attendance also received two tickets to a Lions preseason game.

The event was organized by Ally Financial alongside Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit and Detroit PAL. Big Brothers Big Sisters recruits exemplary citizens to share positive experiences with youth throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, while Detroit PAL positively impacts the lives of over 13,000 children each year through athletic, academic, and leadership development programs.
