The date change followed a request from the Azerbaijan race promoter and relevant government stakeholders, with the schedule adjustment announced by the FIA and Formula 1. On the track, Russell delivered a commanding performance in qualifying to secure pole position, leaving his rivals chasing from the outset. According to Total Motorsport, Russell produced a dominant lap in qualifying to clear the field, while championship leader Antonelli crashed during Q1, consigning the Italian to sixteenth on the grid and opening the door for his teammate to claw back crucial points.

Antonelli’s subsequent recovery drive became one of the defining narratives of the afternoon. Starting deep in the midfield on the 6.003-kilometre Baku City Circuit, the Italian picked his way through traffic to salvage a fifth-place finish.
