International development funding windows and startup acceleration initiatives have opened application cycles, offering substantial backing for regional enterprises and local community projects across multiple continents. As organisations gear up for the upcoming implementation phases, applicants face strict administrative hurdles, distinct eligibility criteria, and immovable submission deadlines governed by international development frameworks and private sector organisers alike.

The Africa Startup Congress (ASC) National and Continental Pitch Competition, organised by Accelerate Africa, is inviting submissions from enterprises based in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and Congo. Eligible ventures must be legally registered in one of the ten participating countries, feature a founding team of at least two members where at least one is a national of the host country, and have already launched a product or service on the market or possess a tested functional prototype. Idea-stage projects are explicitly barred from participation. According to the competition details, all sectors are eligible, including technology, fintech, agritech, healthcare, energy, education, e-commerce, logistics, and creative industries.

Entrants must not have raised more than US$500,000 in funding during the previous twelve months, nor can they have won first prize in an international startup competition within the previous twenty-four months. All founding team members must be at least 18 years old by the application deadline on September 30, 2026. Following the closure of the application window on September 30, 2026, national pitch competitions and roadshows will take place between October and November 2026. The victorious startup from each participating nation will secure a berth at the continental competition, which forms the culmination of the Africa Startup Congress running from February 24 to 26, 2027, at the Kigali Convention Center in Rwanda. Successful candidates may pitch in English or French, with simultaneous interpretation provided at the grand final in Kigali for those who do not speak either language.

Parallel to private-sector startup initiatives, bilateral development cooperation instruments are accepting proposals for community-level infrastructure and social support. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Hanoi has launched its annual call for Small-Scale Projects in Vietnam, matching a parallel initiative opened by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Beirut for Lebanon. These instruments support local projects addressing regional development priorities, ranging from environmental protection and agriculture to health, education, and social services.

The Small-Scale Projects framework carries rigid administrative oversight. Projects must qualify as official development assistance under OECD/DAC rules. Support costs, which cover project management, administration, travel, translations, and publicity, cannot exceed 8 percent of the Czech-funded project budget, while general organisational overheads such as rent and utilities are entirely ineligible. Central government authorities and political parties are barred from applying, and implementers must possess legal personality within the beneficiary country.

Financial administration rules for the diplomatic grants require precise accounting in local currency converted via designated exchange rates, accompanied by a mandatory 3 percent exchange-rate reserve held in Czech crowns. Implementers are barred from receiving full advance payments; instead, disbursements occur in accountable instalments capped at 50 percent of the approved budget and restricted to three-month intervals. All project activities, disbursements, and final reporting must strictly adhere to the operational calendar, with project implementation ending no later than October 31, 2027.

As applicants finalise their submissions across these diverse international frameworks, attention shifts toward the upcoming evaluation phases. Review panels for the enterprise pitch competitions will assess candidates on innovation, scalability, traction, and social or environmental impact potential ahead of the autumn roadshows. Meanwhile, diplomatic missions will evaluate small-scale project proposals through the winter months, with contract signatures and project implementation slated to commence in early 2027.
