Zepto and Meta services suffer outages for thousands of users
Users across several countries reported widespread technical failures on Meta platforms and Zepto, including account errors and payment difficulties.
Digital connectivity across global networks faced widespread disruption on Sunday, 19 July 2026, as significant technical failures impacted multiple online platforms. Meta-owned services, including Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, experienced intermittent access issues, while the Indian quick-commerce service Zepto simultaneously faced a surge in user reports concerning its own digital infrastructure.
The disruption affecting Meta’s suite of services appeared to originate in the United States. According to data from the outage-tracking service Downdetector, a sharp increase in user reports regarding Facebook commenced at approximately 3:25 a.m. Eastern Time. By 0746 GMT, 4,808 reports had been filed by Facebook users in the United States, with 63 percent of these reports citing difficulties in accessing the website. Instagram experienced a similar surge in technical complaints, with 2,829 reports logged by 0818 GMT, primarily concerning app accessibility.

The failure manifested in various forms, causing concern among the user base. Many individuals encountered an automated message stating:
Other users reported more distressing experiences, with some describing an initial notice claiming they had been temporarily banned before being redirected to a generic error page. Reports of these issues emerged not only from the United States but also from the United Kingdom, Canada, and India."Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."
The disturbance was not limited to Western regions. In India, reports of difficulties involving Instagram crossed 1,900 at approximately 2:20 p.m. Local time, while Facebook recorded more than 600 reports around the same period. Singaporean users also observed intermittent access, with Downdetector logging a peak of 396 reports for Facebook at 3:57 p.m. Local time, and 425 reports for Instagram at 4:47 p.m. In Malaysia, issues began around 3:00 p.m. Local time, with particular focus on disruptions for those attempting to access Facebook via desktop computers.
Simultaneous to the Meta outages, the Indian quick-commerce platform Zepto experienced a spike in user reports regarding the functionality of its app and website. According to Downdetector, this surge occurred at approximately 1:59 p.m. Indian Standard Time. Users of the service, which operates a dark store-led supply chain for groceries and daily essentials, specifically highlighted problems with the platform’s payment systems.
The events prompted comparisons to previous high-profile failures at Meta, specifically a configuration issue in October 2021 that rendered services inaccessible for nearly six hours. The current situation remained fluid as of Sunday evening, with platforms exhibiting intermittent service patterns. This meant that while some users could access feeds and messages, others remained unable to load content or send communications.
Meta has not yet issued a definitive statement regarding the root cause of the disruptions or a timeline for a full restoration of services. As of 5:00 p.m. Local time in Malaysia, the company had not provided an explanation to the public, and Reuters reported that Meta did not immediately reply to requests for comment regarding the situation.
