French father jailed for threatening to behead primary school teacher
A French father has been jailed for six months after threatening to behead his son's primary school teacher, reviving memories of Samuel Paty's 2020 murder.
A father in France has been sentenced to six months in prison following a fast-track hearing on Thursday after threatening to behead his son's primary school teacher. The incident unfolded six days prior in the village of Le Fauga, a community with a population of about 2,600 just outside Toulouse.
The confrontation occurred after the 47-year-old father, identified in court as Abdelkader B., was summoned to the school. Staff had informed him that his son was disruptive in class and continued misbehaving even after being moved to another room. The teacher allegedly instructed the child to stop acting like a "little bully". Le Fauga Mayor Jean-Marie Puig told BFMTV that the father waited for the educator outside the school premises. Witnesses and the victim testified that the threats escalated from the car park into the school grounds, with another teacher hearing the father say that his son would return the following day with a knife to stab her.
When standing before the Toulouse Criminal Court, Abdelkader B. Admitted he lost it after the teacher's tone escalated, confessing that he told her:
"If you were a man, I would have cut your head off."
He later apologised in court, insisting he was not a violent person and was not proud of his actions.
The severity of the language used has deeply shaken France because of its grim historical parallel. Ms Momasso Momasso, a lawyer representing the Toulouse education authority and the victim, noted that the educator saw herself ending up like Samuel Paty, the teacher murdered and decapitated outside his school in a Paris suburb in October 2020. According to local media reporting, she stated that the case is one of the most serious, emphasising that the perpetrator knew the country's scars when uttering such words.

The fallout within Le Fauga was immediate. Co-workers of the threatened teacher refused to enter the school building following the attack. French Education Minister Edouard Geffray forcefully condemned the episode, stating:
"No teacher should be afraid to do their job. Attacking one of them is attacking the entire institution."
Minister Geffray steered a new decree through parliament over the summer designed to protect school staff from significant safety risks posed by students or their families. Toulouse education chief Karim Benmiloud confirmed that this specific confrontation will trigger one of the very first applications of that legislation. Under the July decree, authorities can forcibly transfer disruptive students to different schools when safety thresholds are breached. It is expected that both the disruptive boy and his younger sister will be relocated to an institution outside of Le Fauga.
Alongside his six-month prison sentence, Abdelkader B. Received a three-year ban preventing him from approaching the victim or contacting the school, alongside an order to take a citizenship course.
